INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT: A TATTOO STUDIO

DESIGN INSPIRED BY THE CLASSICS

When we first saw these two very young guys walk into our office, we knew immediately that we were about to take on an enormous challenge. With huge enthusiasm, they asked us to take charge of the interior design project for their Orix tattoo studio. The owners had in mind a neoclassical-style space mixed with fiercely contemporary touches.

Let’s remember that the neoclassical movement emerged in the 18th century. Its main aim was to revive the aesthetic and cultural values of the civilisations of Classical Antiquity (Greece and Rome). Neoclassical buildings were characterised by the purity of their lines, symmetry and proportions, steering clear of anything baroque.

The difficulty of the project lay in the tight budget versus the huge premises they had, which also had double-height ceilings. With all this in mind, we got down to work on the design concept. After much deliberation, we decided to use plaster mouldings of various types. This would create the interplay of symmetry we were after, as well as the ordering of volumes so typical of neoclassical buildings. In terms of cost, this also solved our budget problem, since plaster was quite affordable. Finally, we left the double-height space open and built two symmetrical cubicles on the ground floor to serve as treatment cabins.

Although the decoration and interior design project was carried out entirely by Keinzo Interiores, it was the client who handled its execution. The renovation was entirely down to them.

It has certainly been a challenging experience, but a very rewarding one at the same time. We’re extremely proud of the result, and we’d also like to congratulate Lidia and José Manuel for the effort and enthusiasm they put into making this project happen. Managing a renovation of that scale is by no means easy.

Here are the photos so you can see the amazing result we achieved. We hope you like them as much as we do.
